A few more updated pictures of the shop

Based on previous experience I wanted the shop larger. I don't think it's physically possible to get a too large shop :-) This one is 60 m2. Up from my previous 35-40 m2. It's now painted fully on the outside (not just primed, although the color is very similar) and on the inside. I went with a rather unusual color on the inside. Light pink, after looking too much on the fire retarding plates. We call the shop the pink elephant :-)

It's fully insulated, heated and with fire retarding plates on the inside. They are mounted over fiber plates, making it easy to mount stuff.

Only some plumbing left.  The Onex is already there, nice and warm and dry. It was previous in my garage which also was nice and warm and dry, but my wife wanted a nice and dry and warm car instead :-)

As you probably understand, I'm a biiit fed up with making shops now. This is the third one. Actually the fourth counting my garage that at least worked as a storage for a year and a half.

 

The roof is finished

 Finally a weekend without rain or snow, so I could walk on the roof without falling down. The last bits and pieces is on, and the roof is finally water tight all around.

More roof

 The outer roof is on. That was 10x more work than I thought. No way I could do it without help from my sons. Still bits and pieces to be done.

Mounted condensation stopper foil and stringers for the roof skin. That was a whole lot of work, and it had to be done while balancing up there, trying not to fall down. Completely battered today :-) One of my sons came and helped.

The structure is coming up

The (wooden) structure arrived. The main blocks was raised this weekend, with lots of help from my 3 sons. It would be impossible without them due to the sheer weight alone. One of them is a wooden boat builder, which helped a lot. He came all the way from Fredrikstad.

The wooden structure is a partly pre-fabbed thing from Lundqvist in Sweden. So far, very satisfied.

Insulation must also be done on the outside to prevent the cold from creeping in during cold winter months.

One of my sons got himself a Honda Africa Twin the weekend before. He also "sacrificed" the whole weekend helping out, instead of riding his new bike. The prospect of having a warm and dry place for his bikes in the winter was just too tempting I guess :-) He also has a smaller Honda, a CL 500.

The fundament is complete

The fundament is complete. I can also have a toilet in there :-) but that's for later. Now I have to wait for the structure to arrive.

New shop an other stuff

Finished insulating the garage with help from my son. Now this is finished, but is at the moment filled with Onex and thousand cases of bits and pieces. Got some cabinets and so on also.

Started working on the new shop. It will be 60 m2, insulated and heated and with water. Hopefully before Christmas, we'll see. Still almost a month before the wooden construction arrives, some kind of Lego-ish thing.

Insulated the roof in the garage (new shop)

 Some work indeed. Not enough space to sit, had to lay down in the horizontal. Couldn't just move around on the roof panel either. Glad it's done.

Insulation and moisture protection

Got some Glava insulation and moisture protection film. I heard that this moisture protection film was extremely important to prevent hot humid air on the inside to leak out and condensate in the insulation. There it will be trapped and can cause damage over time to the wooden structure. It's very important that the film is on the inside of the insulation, understandably

On the roof it will be a PITA to apply that protective film without taking down all the roof plates, which also would be a PITA. Did some research about it, and it turns out as long as the insulation is less than 20 cm, the condensation will occur on the outside of the insulation, this it will simply evaporate. My insulation is 10 cm. All this moisture thing is really of academic interest for my garage. How wind tight it is, is of importance too. My garage isn't exactly wind tight.

In new houses in Norway the insulation is much more than 20 cm, and they are super wind tight. Then this is a real problem of course, only not in my garage. I just continue with this moisture protection film on the other walls (since I bought a lot of it, and it's easy to set up), but not on the roof.

  

Refurbishing the garage as a shop

Due to lots of odd complications, I decided to simply refurbish the garage as a shop to finish the Onex. What's needed is insulation and new electrical stuff. There will be no water or sink, but it will have to do for now. The first thing to do is to tear down the plates to apply insulation. I will do wall for wall.

And it's good to be back to build.

Lots of things have happened in the mean time. I got a 1/2 share in a ICP Savannah. Super fun bush plane.

 And about 1/10 share in a Super Decathlon. We are about 10 guys (old men :-) flying some aerobatics.

The Super Decathlon has been for repairs all summer. I have only flown it a couple of hours yet. But the Onex is finally first up on the priority again once the garage is OK to work in. I still have plans for a larger shop, but I insulating and heating the garage will be a good thing in any case.

This is the third shop I'm building (not really building this one, but still). The next one will be the fourth. I didn't imagine this when starting building an aircraft, a long time ago :-)
